First honours graduate of the late Prof. Tom Walker (of Garden Show fame) and Senior Scholar, Lincoln College 1971 - and what honour it was to be mentored by this icon of NZ Soil Science! Worked as a Soil Surveyor for 4 years from Lincoln before PhD in soil physics at Washington State Uni. Spent 20 years mostly in the Hutt Valley with the DSIR Soil Bureau/Land & Soil Sciences/Land Resources before transferring to Landcare Research and being shifted to Palmerston North.

Still a professional hole digger and collector of soil samples (for analyses of course!) but like most scientists these days, spend lots of time at the PC and meetings. Have had an applied bent to my R&D all my career and don't plan to change that before I eventually retire.

A Past-President of the NZ Inst Agric Sci + Royal Society and NZ Soil Sci Soc Councillor. Currently a member of the PSA Science and State Sector Committees.

Soil physics, pedology and general soil science, Minesite rehabilitation, Soils and the environment - spanning all the land uses, Science management
